About
The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety is dedicated to saving lives and reducing injuries on the roads. It is a not-for-profit, publicly-supported charitable educational and research organization. Since 1947, the Foundation has funded over 170 research projects designed to discover the causes of traffic crashes, prevent them, and minimize injuries when they do occur.
The Foundation's Research and Development Advisory Committee has charged the Foundation with tackling specific road safety challenges to reduce fatalities from more than 42,000 each year. To meet this goal, the Foundation will conduct critical research and develop innovative solutions to address key traffic safety issues facing every American. This research will be conducted under the auspices of four Centers of Excellence. The Centers will expand on the Foundation's historic work, and provide a means for sharper focus on areas where measurable change can occur in traffic safety.
The four Centers of Excellence are:
Safety Culture;
Road Safety and U.S. Road Assessment Program;
Senior Safety and Mobility; and
Teen Driving Safety.
Each Center, with directional oversight and management by the Foundation, will merge the Foundation's experience and competence with stakeholder organizations, researchers, and other partners, to define and deploy a research strategy that, within an established time frame, provides meaningful direction for change in real-world road safety improvements benefiting all roadway users.
