Time for Summer Travel
Summer Road Trip? Read These Tips!
With the summer travel season upon us, more and more Americans will take to the road in these coming months, so the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety has come up with some helpful reminders for how to stay safe in your travels.
Plan ahead. Read maps and check traffic conditions before you leave, so you will be prepared for your journey. Get enough sleep the night before, especially before a long trip. Travel at times when you are normally awake, stay overnight rather than driving straight through, and make sure you schedule a break ever 2 hours or every 100 miles.
Pay attention to your surroundings and do not try and multitask while driving. Driver inattention is a factor in more than 1 million crashes in North America annually, resulting in serious injuries and deaths. Be sure to stop to eat and drink, and to pull over before you try and read a map or make a phone call.
Be sure to clean your headlights and your windshield, and check to make certain everything is working properly with your vehicle. Before you hit the road, make sure your car contains a safety kit with items that will be useful in case of an emergency. Planning ahead can help to ensure a safe and fun filled vacation season for all!
